The Alpineum Museum Luzerne, Switzerland

Mountain Vistas

Wide view to the mountains

Perfect illusion in the 3D-Alpine Panorama.

One feels that one is walking in the Alps-and that in the centre of

town! Gigantic diorama pictures with configurated foreground and

astonishing effect of depth display Switzerland's most beautiful

mountain regions in three-dimensional representation: Pilatus, Rigi,

Jungfrau, Monte Rosa, Gornergrat, Breithorn, Matterhorn and the

ascent to Mont Blanc. An artistic masterpiece created a hundred years

ago by the two painters, Ernst Hodel Snr. and Ernst Hodel Jnr. The Alps

as virtual experience in diorama, the forerunner of cinema and television.

Numerous reliefs, model houses, ships and mountain railways augment

the exhibition.

The special show : "The Stereo Image"

A rare collection of spatial photography around 1900.

Up into the mountains, in the glaring light, to the eternal snow, the glaciers

you feel you can touch. Plunge into yesterday's  world of entertainment.

The Alpineum, built in neo-classical cupola style, is directly opposite

the Lion Monument.
